Working out, week 0

Before we get onto the main topic of today, something I should cover first. So yesterday on the blog I said we were going to go see lego batman, turns out it doesn’t come out till next week. Somehow both of my roommates didn’t notice the date was next week, oh well. Since we were out we ended up going to Dr. Strange at a dollar theater. It was alright, some of the humor felt really forced though.

Alright, that out of the way, let’s get onto the main subject: Working out. So I’ve been thinking about working out for the last week or so, and decided to start today. I just want to lose a little weight and put on a little muscle. I don’t want to get skinny, and I’m fine being a little chubby, but I need to scale things back a little bit from what I’m at currently. My wife would get upset if I didn’t stay a little fat, cause I’m a good pillow, apparently.

So let’s cover where I’m at now. I’m currently 230 lbs (~104kg), I can walk for a few hours without getting tired, and my upper body strength is pretty weak. So I want to get down to like 180ish lb (~81 kg), and mainly focus on getting my upper body strength up a bit. I want to be able to do a few pull ups. So I’m mainly going to try to walk/run on a treadmill, try doing pullups, and some situps/pushups almost everyday.

I’ve already worked out today, and I’m going to try to do roughly the same thing every day, unless something else comes up and I can’t make it. Each week on Sunday I’ll be posting a progress report and let you guys know if I switch up anything with how I’m working out. I figured if I start writing a weekly post about it, it will help me stay motivated.

This is the plan for every day, and what I did today. Start off walking/running on the treadmill for about 45 minutes, and if I get too comfortable with the current settings I’ll just up it one speed setting till I get used to that. Then I’ll try to do as many pull ups, sit ups, and push ups that I can manage. That’s pretty much it. I might change things around, but I think this will work at least for the first few weeks.

Right now I can do 0 pull ups, 5 push ups, and 20 sit ups. It’s a start.

Let me know if you have any ideas, I’m not sure if I’m doing things right or not. Well guess I’ll give an update in a week, hopefully I can shed a few pounds and be able to do more.
